Laza Tigrigna, one of the leading media outlets in Tigray, operating under the license of Laza Media Service, announced that it had been the target of a coordinated cyberattack against its digital platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram.
One of the notable attacks was carried out on August 28, 2025, in a well-orchestrated manner by hackers who managed to temporarily breach one of its major company emails, according to the official statement of the outlet. An intervention of the company’s IT experts and its technology support partner was able to restore the hacked account within two hours. Other hacking attempts against its remaining platforms were detected early and successfully thwarted through proactive security measures, reads the statement.
The media service described the incident as part of a broader pattern of defamation campaigns it has endured, with critics accusing it of political bias or affiliation.
“We want to make it clear: Laza Tigrigna is a free and independent media. We are not affiliated with any political party, individual, or company, nor do we receive sponsorship from any external body. Our sole commitment is to serve the people of Tigray with integrity and neutrality,” the management of Laza Tigrigna stated.
The company reaffirmed its mission to represent the interests of the people of Tigray and to provide an open platform for diverse voices and ideas.
