The Institute of Domestic Violence, Religion & Migration (IDVRM), in partnership with St Frumentius Theological College in Tigray, has launched an initiative to equip Orthodox clergy with the tools to provide spiritual care to survivors of wartime sexual violence in Ethiopia’s Tigray region. The project aims to build a Spiritual Care Model that responds to survivors’ needs in ways grounded in Orthodox theology, trauma awareness, and safeguarding practices.
The programme is now seeking £5,000 in funding to:
- Support a team of seminarians, theologians, and gender-based violence experts to finalise training materials.
- Pilot the programme through workshops with 20–25 clergy and community leaders.
- Gather evidence to improve and expand the training across Ethiopia.
- Raise community awareness to reduce stigma and promote survivor reintegration.
“All donations will go directly to Ethiopian collaborators on the ground,” IDVRM confirmed, noting that the institute will waive all administrative fees.
Supporters are warmly invited to contribute to this urgent effort to help survivors reclaim their dignity, their faith, and their place in society. Contributions of £20, £30, £50, £100, or any amount you can give will make a difference, according to the institute’s program launch release.
