Three Top Security Commanders Suspended in Tigray

The President of the Tigray Interim Regional Administration (TIRA), Getachew Reda, has suspended three commanders of the Tigray armed forces from their positions as of March 10, 2025, citing their role in destabilizing the region and disregarding the interim government’s decisions.

According to official letters dispatched and reported by Tigrai Mass Media Agency, Major General Yohannes Woldegiorgis, Brigadier General Migbey Haile, and Major General Masho Beyene were suspended from their positions due to their alleged actions, which have been escalating unrest among the youth and society at large, deepening the security crisis, and steering members of the security forces toward the perilous path of civil war.

The suspension is described as temporary, with no additional details provided regarding the next steps. It remains unclear whether the interim administration will request federal intervention to address the looming security threats in Tigray, which are linked to internal factional disputes within the TPLF to take over the power of the regional state.
