For the last 30 years the Amhara elites have been tirelessly working in coordination in promoting hatred and antagonism against the ethnic Tigrayans in Ethiopia. And now they have created a favorable condition and enabling environment for the fascist Abiy government that has declared an all-out war of genocide on Tigray for the last 7 months. Among the Amhara elites who are serving as backbones of this disastrous genocidal war is Haile Gebreselassie, a big name in the athletics world.
Haile first praised the war on Tigray and publicly expressed his support to the Ethiopian military who has been engaging in gang raping women and girls, massacring civilians, mass killing of residents, destroying life-saving health facilities, looting public and private properties and playing all the ugly games along with the beast Eritrean army.
Haile Gebreselassie when asked about the war on Tigray by Ethiopian TV, a state propaganda machine, he said that Abiy managed the war in Tigray smartly.
According to Gebreselassie, PM Abiy’s smart management of the war is mass killing of civilians, merciless massacre all over Tigray, continues gang raping of women and girls, inviting Amhara militias and Eritrean army to kill Tigrayans, rape our women, loot our properties, destroy our facilities and annex Tigray’s land.
Furthermore the athlete openly supports Abiy’s use of rape and famine as weapon. And he added that there is no need to go back to recall how the government conducted the operation. Like all the Amhara elites, Gebreselassie call the genocidal war on Tigray “law and order operation.”
Now, at this time where the world is witnessing the worst genocide of the 21st C in Tigray, every international institutions and actors should join hands in condemning the act of the international athlete. The world should revoke his renowned fame and distance itself from working with this agent of genocide. Every responsible citizen of the world should also stop collaborating with and engaging in any business activities with Haile Gebreselassie.
