Interim President Fires Peace and Security Head

Tigray Interim Administration President Getachew Reda Fires Head of Peace and Security Bureau Amid Ongoing Power Struggle Between TPLF Factions.

Tigray Interim Administration (TIA) President Getachew Reda has dismissed the head of Tigray’s Peace and Security Bureau, Major General Fiseha Kidanu, effective today, March 11, 2025. This decision came after the bureau head rejected the president’s March 10 suspension of three senior army commanders.

The head of the bureau is remembered by some for his brutal crackdown on peaceful protesters on September 7, 2023, in Mekelle, which left many injured without justice. The protest, organized by opposition political parties in the region, was held under the theme “Covenant for Radical Change.”

The suspended military officials, along with their immediate superior, are accused of attempting an internal coup against the Interim Administration’s TPLF group.

Tensions escalated further today when a group of armed security forces took control of the mayor’s office in Adigrat and handed it over to Radae Gebreezgiabiher, a mayor appointed by Debretsion Gebremichael’s faction of the TPLF, also known as the “TPLF Office.”

It is worth noting that senior security officials recently gathered and officially declared their allegiance to this faction [TPLF office].
