Many administrative units in areas controlled by the TPLF Office are opposing the suspension of senior security officials and the dismissal of their head, calling it an illegal and ”dictatorial” move by the president. Statements issued by the Central Zone of Tigray, Wereda administrations such as Ahsa’e and La’elay Maychew, and the city administration of Aksum have expressed grievances against the decision.
All of them claim to have held the TPLF’s 14th Congress and assert themselves as the legitimate power holders. They reject the TIRA’s mandate to introduce any reforms within the TPLF or the administration of Tigray. In their statements, they referred to Getachew Reda, without mentioning his name, as the “former president” and accused him of dismantling the armed forces of Tigray.
The statements also vow to maintain control over administrative power and reaffirm their support for the recent declaration made by senior security officials. They uphold the decisions made during their 14th Congress, despite it being deemed illegal by Ethiopia’s Board of Electoral Commission and rejected by Getachew Reda’s faction of the TPLF.
